Communitas - Honoring the mycelium network of psyche, nature and community

We want to create community, heightened solidarity, and shared experiences in liminal natural spaces through ceremony and deep listening. This is what communitas is.

We honour the full spectrum of human experience—welcoming every culture, every story, every identity. This is a space where LGBTQIA+ lives are seen, valued, and celebrated. All of us are vital to our collective becoming.

Communitas calls us into sacred connection—an invitation to transcend individual ego and step into the deeper currents of shared meaning. We enter communitas through profound, transformative collective experiences, where the soul remembers its belonging. In 'Soulmaking in Nature Communitas' we gather in ceremony and ritual, weaving intention, healing, and deep listening into the fabric of our shared journey. Guided always by the wisdom of Nature, we walk the path of psycho-spiritual exploration, allowing the earth, the sky, and the unseen to co-create with us, opening the way to profound transformation.

Communitas is the name we give to our community gatherings, collaborative creative endeavors and group rituals. We take a “both, and …” approach to dancing with our individualism - which can sometimes lead to feeling alone, disconnected or even existential anxiety - and our need for moments of collective joy and the healing power of togetherness with other human beings and the more than human world.

Rooted in C.G. Jung’s concept of the collective unconscious, communitas emerges when individuals experience a deep sense of unity by engaging in a shared liminal space. This phenomenon can be seen in rituals, festivals, and moments of intense group cohesion, when we connect with something greater than our individuality. Communitas also provides a container for integration and synthesis after such a liminal time. The benefits of communitas are far-reaching, offering psychological renewal, emotional healing, and a greater sense of purpose.

It is in moments of deep group connection, in ceremony, story, creativity and vulnerability, that we experience a release allowing genuine Self-expression. This can lead to an expanded awareness of one's place within the world. As we as individuals undergo these transformative experiences together and with nature as our co-creator and collaborator, we build a stronger sense of Self and an appreciation for the interconnected nature of eco, ego and psyche. In an increasingly fragmented world, fostering communitas is more vital than ever.

Eco-Psychosynthesis - A journey of Soulmaking in Nature

In this conversation, Alex Hatfield shares her journey into eco-psychosynthesis, a soulful blend of psychology, spirituality, and our relationship with the natural world. She sits down with Magnus, one of the lead guides at Soul Making in Nature, to talk about what it means to step more deeply into connection with ourselves, each other, and the land.

Together, they explore the three pillars of their work—training, rites of passage, and communitas—and why these matter in today’s world. Along the way, they reflect on personal stories of finding meaning in unexpected places, whether that’s stumbling across a forgotten book on a London street or rediscovering the magic of a local park.

The conversation also touches on the role of ceremony in modern life—not only as a way of honouring personal thresholds, but also as a way of living in tune with the natural cycles of birth, life, death, and renewal. At the heart of it all is a vision for authentic belonging: creating spaces of communitas where everyone is welcome to show up as they are and explore the fullness of their human experience..
